Day 3: London —> Brussels

9.25.21

Today I was set on my own. Melina dropped me off at St Pancras INTL train station where I went through security and boarded the EuroStar train to Brussels.

The ride was about 2 hours, I napped most of the way but was too scared to really fall asleep in case I missed my stop. I maneuvered my way through busy lines and checks for passports and vaccinations. Once through and in the Brussels-MIDI station, I was pretty lost. Completely unclear of the Metro and bus systems, I wandered around the station for about 30 minutes and asked 3 people for help, all of whom would direct me to someone else. My tiredness of being hopeless overcame my tiredness of carrying my huge bag, so I decided to walk to my hostel. Ironically, 2 minutes into walking I found the bus I had been looking for, but my heart was already (regrettably so) set on exercise.

Of course, it was an unusually hot day for September in Brussels- 75 and super sunny, making my walk very long and sweaty. 1.6 miles and 35 minutes later my back ached from my huge ruck sack but I made it.

I am staying at Generation Europe Youth Hostel in a 4 bed all female dorm. I put my stuff down, cooled off, and left to explore the city.

Unfortunately, the city center was closed due to a private concert, so I decided to just wander. I found a nice park and sat down to read and eat my leftover Pizza Express pizza. I took a short nap under a tree and began making my way home before dark. I maneuvered the busy streets and shops back to the hostel where I had an early night of updating the blog!

Goodnight!

  1. I bet you will have the bus system mastered! I think it would be confusing, but with practice it would get a little easier. Reading and enjoying a park sounds relaxing.
