Day 6: Beaches and Waffles

9.28.21

I had an early morning to catch a train to Knokke- a coastal city of Belgium. The train ride was about an hour and a half (for which I mostly spent napping). Once arrived, I walked along a long strip of stores and couldn’t help but notice that this city was mostly filled with either old people or babies who, regardless of which, wore rich attire. Along my walk, I was in a desperate search of my morning coffee and found the most perfect place. It had so many varieties of lattes it was so hard to chose- but I eventually settled on the pink velvet latte, which was made out of beet root!

I do believe that the quality of my morning coffee is an indicator for the quality of my day. I was so happy drinking this pink coffee- they even gave me a complimentary mini muffin! It was such a great find.

I finally got to the beach and had a relaxing morning of reading, eating a leftover waffle from yesterday, painting (watercolor), and drinking my coffee on the warm sand. It was a very nice morning.

Around noon I got back on the train to Brussels. I booked a Belgian Waffle Workshop online and after arriving there right at 2, I realized I had mapped to the wrong place and ran half a mile, cutting the time in half but thankfully only being 5 minutes late.

The instructor was super nice and taught us all about different European waffles: the stroopwafel (my favorite), the Scandinavian waffle, the Brussels waffle, and the street waffle. It was only me and a couple from Seattle in the workshop. They were super nice

We then got to make our own brussels waffles. I accidentally broke the yolk, but they still turned out great! There were so many delicious toppings and he workshop was a lot of fun. I think I’m going to find stroopwafel workshop next!

I then headed to the Comic strip museum which was super cool. I didn’t know the smurfs originated in Belgium! They also had a lot of cool history on Asian comic strips.

Making my way back to the hostel, I stopped at Makisu a make your own maki restaurant! I got the chicken Katsu maki, and it was so so good.

The pink velvet latte was right- it was a very good last day in Belgium!
