Day 19: Berlin

10.11.21

Kate signed me her and Oskar up for a walking tour of Berlin. Berlin has so much history and I knew just two days in this city wouldn’t be nearly enough to fully understand and appreciate it, but the walking tour was able to scratch the surface well enough. It lasted about 3 hours and we saw many historical buildings and memorials and got lucky that the rain cleared up by 11!

Afterwards we went to Espresso House to get some lunch. We all sat and talked for quite a while, mostly comparing countries and our policies- it was as so interesting to hear about all the insane differences between New Zealand, Sweden, and the US. We then checked out Brammibal’s Donuts- a well known vegan donut store! The options looked so amazing! I got cookie dough, white chocolate strawberry, and apple pie.

We then headed to the hostel and said our goodbyes. Oskar was going to another hostel in Berlin to continue his job at the bakery and Kate was moving into an apartment with her friend before going back home to New Zealand.

I hung out at the hostel a little while to rest up and the went to the Topographie Des Terror- a museum documenting the timeline of Nazi control and dominance. After that, I headed to a restaurant I had found online “Momo’s ”.

Made in Berlin, they had a menu of veggie and vegan dumplings! They were very good.

I walked back to the hostel to find my room completely empty for the night. I packed up and had an early night for an early train ride the next day!
