Day 55: Sintra

11.16.21

Today, me and a couple volunteers did a half day trip to a town in Portugal named Sintra. We didn’t need to wake up too early since it was only an hour journey by public transport. We arrived in the then did a pretty long, steep hike up to the Peña palace. It was hot and I was very underprepared, but the views were totally worth it!

The palace was amazing, it looked like a Disney castle with such vibrant colors and the panoramic views of Lisbon were gorgeous.

We were short on time so we took a Tuk Tuk ride down, got some lunch, and took our train back to the city. Me, Emma, and Maja, all food rescue volunteers, went to our placement together. In this volunteer program, we take carts to various restaurants and grocery stores throughout the city and take their leftover food and repackage it into meals and redistribution the it to those who need it. Otherwise, all this food would be thrown out and wasted.

This was a super fun program and I loved to have the opportunity to help out of a couple hours a day.

After volunteering, we went back to the hostel and had a really good dinner at the hostel. After dinner, we walked to a nearby gas station and got some chocolates and wine and played cards until midnight.
