Day 4: A Day Trip to Bruges

9.26.21

I knew the weather in Brussels wouldn’t stay this good for long, so I planned a day trip to Bruges (not so much planned as woke up and decided to go). I enjoyed the free hostel breakfast, packed my day pack, and headed to the train station. I was very excited to find a Dunkin Donuts at the train station and of course the selection of coffees and donuts were far better than the US, seems like everything here is!

The train ride to Bruges was only an hour. I absolutely loved watching the Belgian countryside pass by in the train window. So, so beautiful. Loved the cows too.

As soon was I got off the train, I just decided to follow the crowds which led me to a huge outdoor market of antique and vintage vendors. It was extremely cool- all I got though was a postcard of old Bruges.

The city center, while very touristy, was so beautiful. Gorgeous European architecture with canals cutting through the city and the constant scent of waffles. I did indulge in a large variety of Belgian chocolates.

After some more wandering, I decided to check out the Historium, a clearly popular Golden Age of Bruge interactive museum. I would rate it about a 6/10. The effects were super cool, but I was definitely looking for something more educational or revealing of Bruges history, not just a random love story from the Golden Age.

I wrote this journal entry sitting along one of the canals while eating my Belgian chocolate, a very happy moment from the day.
